Fluonalp Schweiz Giswil - Fluonalp Switzerland Giswil

Fluonalp – Switzerland

What do you do when temperatures have been above 30°C (86°F) for weeks, with only a few exceptions, and yet another day of a heat wave is in the forecast?

You grab a few people you like and head for the mountains.

Pleasant temperatures.
Great conversations.
Lots of laughter.
A good Chässchnitte (Swiss cheese toast).
And the most fantastic view imaginable.

That’s exactly what we did.

Fluonalp is located near Giswil in the canton of Obwalden, Switzerland, at 1,538 meters (5,046 feet) above sea level.

There is a restaurant with a spacious terrace and a traditional dining room. They serve good, hearty Alpine specialties.

I had been here before, so even before looking at the menu, I already knew pretty much what I wanted to eat: a Chässchnitte.

The staff are all incredibly friendly and helpful.

Coffee is normally served in a standard coffee glass without a handle. A little tricky for me and my hands.

The staff were so kind and looked for a proper coffee cup for me that I could hold normally.
In the end, the owner himself lent me his cup.

Thank you so much!

And yes: We’ll be back.

If only for the Chässchnitte.
